Vieques is an island off the coast off another island. As you might expect, there are a ton of beaches surrounding Esperanza Inn. With so much shoreline to choose from, you may want to have a plan before you land on the island.

After a flight, a ferry ride, and a drive through the tight streets of Vieques, it’s perfectly natural to have a powerful appetite. Now that it’s time for you to relax and enjoy your vacation, you can order off the finest menus on our island.

If you asked us one fun fact about our beautiful island, we would probably tell you that we have more horses than people. It’s not uncommon to see wild horses running in the fields near Vieques National Wildlife Reserve, and sometimes these impressive creatures meander onto our roads searching for grass to eat.

Hiking is a favorite pastime of many of our guests here at Esperanza Inn. Not only does it give people a chance to escape a busy, connected world online, but it grants them a chance to see things they can’t on the mainland.

Vieques is a beautiful island. You’ll want to spend as much time as possible exploring every nook and cranny. While Vieques is a better place to stay for a week, our sister island Culebra shouldn’t be overlooked for a day trip.

With the shore only being a few minutes away from your hotel room, you better believe that Vieques has good fishing. You can venture into the Wildlife Refuge to get some freshwater fishing in, or you can relax on the beach by surf fishing. Each option provides a host of exciting fishing opportunities.

When the ferry first drops you off at Vieques, you won’t be in the town where Esperanza Inn is located. Instead, you'll be docked in the town of Vieques, where most of the tourist shops lie. Because you’ll need to travel through this small town to reach your hotel room, we highly recommend familiarizing yourself with this area.

Traveling to the island of Vieques can be complicated, in part because it is an island off the coast of another island. However, there are ways to do so without too much trouble, and we can help you figure out the basics of your trip.

While the central section of the island is home to locals and prime hotel and inn real estate, the eastern half of Vieques is almost entirely considered part of a wildlife refuge.
